Stenomorpha mckittricki
Stenomorpha mckittricki (Pierce) from Kern County, Mckittrick, CA; covered with pale dirt. This species was described as a fossil from the Mckittrick oil fields before anyone ever found the living specimens.
Beetles make up 1/3 of all described species of insects. Beetles have the unique characteristic of elytra, or hardened forewings. This is my favorite order of insects and the topic of my research.
